Why Epsom Salt Baths?
Besides the fact that it feels really good to just chill out in a hot bath for 45 minutes (who does that anymore?) I love taking epsom salt baths the day after a long run, hard race, or marathon. Why?
According to Livestrong.com:
One old home remedy that works is an Epsom salt soak for sore muscles. The scientific name for Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate. When you soak sore muscles in Epsom...

Whole Foods Salad Bar Recipe Swipe
My friends and I have been joking that we treat the Whole Foods salad bar like going “home for dinner”. The only difference though, when I go home for dinner it’s free. At Whole Paycheck Foods it’s most certainly not free. Hence my inspiration to re-create one of my favorite items from the salad bar after a $14.00 salad on Monday night.
I am a frequent lover of the Detox...

Less than a month to go… feeling okay but maintenance programs are hard and frankly, uninspiring. Craving a 30-day yoga challenge. Needing to redeem my last attempt. Spent the weekend learning how to be a more powerful, authentic, compassionate and inspiring leader at the Landmark Education Forum in Chicago.

Anonymous asked: I didn't ask you about Daily Mile the other day, but now I'll have to check it out. I second what previous anonymous asker said: you're kind of my hero too. Mostly because your bright orange shoes cause other people to want to voluntarily give up their treadmills for you.
Anonymous asked: Why aren't you on daily mile? How am I supposed to internet stalk your training with ease if you aren't on daily mile? By the way- you're kind of my hero.

I am Not a Vegan
…but I am *really* enchanted by its philosophies and culture and choices and most importantly, food!
While I’ll never discount my love for the McDonald’s chicken snack wrap or a medium rare Gibson’s steak I am always on a mission to find foods that make me feel good, look good and RUN FAST.
A huge oxymoron to all this plant stuff, my pre-flight meal before Boston Marathon...

It's magic.
The true hero is flawed. The true test of a champion is not whether he can triumph, but whether he can over come obstacles - preferably of his own making - in order to triumph. A hero without flaw is of no interest to an audience or to the universe, which, after all is based on conflict and opposition, the irresistible force meeting the immovable object.
Every. Damn. Day. To the next 365 and...

The Vitamix love continues. And now, a follow-up to the last post:
I’ve come up with a formula. Here’s how to load the machine for optimum blending and taste results:
1. Choose a juicy, unfrozen fruit for the base adding at least one cup or more.
Green Grapes Red Grapes Any citrus fruit, peeled (oranges, tangerines, clementines, etc) Kiwi Watermelon Cantelope Honey Dew

I am thoroughly loving this down time. Sleeping in on Saturday, not wearing my Garmin, just getting in miles but not worrying about how fast or slow they are, drinking wine, celebrating the holidays and spending time with my bffs:)
Last week I fell in love again with running. It’s not that I wasn’t enjoying it, but I seem to be loving it even more than usual if that’s even...

Love affair with a VitaMix
Last year when I moved into my new place, my mother bought me a VitaMix as a housewarming gift. Over a year later, I’m finally using it to its full potential. My healthy-living cousins Mark and Kim have been using theirs for years, touting the benefits of making juices and eating clean. Earlier this month, Mark’s parents, my aunt and uncle, came to visit in Chicago and they too had...

Please, friends both near and far, take this post to heart. Jacki Carr you are a goddess for reminding us, “You cannot love anyone else until you learn to love yourself. You just can’t.” How fittingly appropriate for the conversations I have had in the last 4 days. I hope you see this. Yes you. And you. Love, G.
